This popular tour was created to offer the very best of China in one compact and complete programme. Visitors will see the best known sites in Beijing, Xian and Shanghai and see the landscape of the Li River’s unique karst mountains and traditional country side around Guilin and Yangshuo.
TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1-2: Johannesburg to Shanghai
Fly from Johannesburg to Shanghai, where upon arrival we will transfer to our hotel for 3 nights.
Days 3-4: Shanghai
Shanghai is known as the ‘Paris of the East’. Experience the city on sightseeing tours of the Shanghai Museum and the famous Bund. This evening is our welcoming banquet of traditional Shanghai cuisine. On the following day visit the Yu Garden and Old Town, the Pudong New Economic Zone, explore the Xintiandi area with its 1920’s style ‘shikumen’ buildings unique to Shanghai. In the evening enjoy a stunning Huangpu River Cruise.
Day 5: Shanghai to Guilin
Enjoy the morning at leisure before flying to the beautiful city of Guilin and transferring to our hotel.
Days 6-7: Li River Cruise / Yangshuo / Guilin
Relax on the spectacular Li River Cruise, whilst enjoying the breathtaking views. Spend tonight in the town of Yangshuo. We will rise early this morning to wander the bustling local markets and meander through residential areas, taking in the town’s captivating atmosphere. This afternoon we drive back to Guilin on our bus, visiting the Seven Star Cave, located in Seven Star Park, along the way. The park received its name due to the seven peaks having a close resemblance to the Big Dipper constellation, other sites are the Camel Hill and the Flower Bridge, built in the Song Dynasty and the oldest bridge in Guilin. Along with the Seven Star Cave, we will also see The “Giant Panda Hotel” which houses two of these cuddly creatures, before heading to the South China Pearl Exhibition Centre. Following this we check into our hotel again for an overnight stay.
Days 8-9: Xian
Visit Mt Diecai to view the stunning karst landscape before flying to the ancient city of Xian, where we enjoy a traditional Shui Jiao Banquet this evening. On the following day, visit the most important archaeological discovery of the 20th Century, the life-size Terracotta Warriors followed by the Ancient City Wall, one of the few remaining in all of China. This evening enjoy a performance of Tang Dynasty Dancing.
Day 10: Xian to Beijing
Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda, the Shaanxi Provincial Museum and stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter to visit the Great Mosque and explore the interesting Islamic food markets. Afterwards fly to Beijing for 4 nights. Tonight enjoy a sample of the delicious local specialty, ‘Peking Duck’.
Days 11-13: Beijing
Beijing is a city full of wonders. Our first day of sightseeing includes a visit to famous Tiananmen Square and the treasure filled Forbidden City. Tomorrow take an exciting walk on the Great Wall, and tour the Temple of Heaven. The following morning enjoy a morning rickshaw tour through traditional Hutongs then visit the exquisite Summer Palace in the afternoon. Our evening entertainment will be a fascinating Chinese Acrobatic show.
Day 14: Depart Beijing
Enjoy a shopping spree at the Silk Markets before boarding our flight to South Africa.
Day 15: Arrive Johannesburg.
Arrive home this morning.
