With a brief visit to Delhi, this journey of discovery continues on to small Rajput towns and villages, with mysterious names like Alsisar, Kumbhalgarh, Deogarh and Pushkar. The Rajasthan Panorama tour combines Indian village life with visits to some of the most opulent palaces and majestic fortresses in India.
TOUR ITINERARYDays 1-2: South Africa to DelhiFly overnight to Delhi for 1 night. Day 3: Delhi to AlsisarThis afternoon leave Delhi and drive to the small desert town of Alsisar. Day 4: Alsisar to Gajner via BikanerHead west to Gajner today stopping in Bikaner en route where we visit Junagarh Fort and enjoy a rickshaw ride through the mediaeval streets to the old city bazaar. Later this afternoon continue driving to Gajner. Days 5-6: Gajner to JaisalmerDrive to Jaisalmer, enjoy an evening visit to the Sunset Point. Tomorrow visit the fort atop the 80m high Trikuta Hill. Later in the afternoon visit the Sam Dunes and take a camel ride on the sand dunes to view the sunset. Day 7: Jaisalmer to ManvarDrive back into the Thar Desert to Manvar. This afternoon experience a camel and jeep safari to local Bishnoi villages to meet the locals. Tonight we will have a memorable stay in a tented camp in the desert. (Manvar Resort if camp unavailable) Day 8: Manvar to JodhpurToday we leave our camp and drive to Jodhpur, located on the edge of the Thar Desert it is the 2nd largest city in Rajasthan. Day 9: JodhpurThis morning visit Meherangarh Fort, one of the most impressive complexes in Rajasthan, followed by the museum located in the Umaid Bhawan Palace. Take an auto rickshaw ride to a local restaurant for lunch before walking through Subji Mandi, the local vegetable and spice market. Day 10: Jodhpur to Udaipur via RanakpurToday we drive to Udaipur, visiting India’s largest Jain temple complex in Ranakpur en route. Cruise Lake Pichola this afternoon, fringed with hills, palaces, havelis, ghats and temples. Day 11: UdaipurThis morning visit Sahelion Ki Bari Gardens, the Folk Museum, Mewar Art Gallery, the City Palace and walk through the local streets and shops. This evening enjoy an enchanting dinner at a local restaurant overlooking Lake Pichola. Day 12: Udaipur to DeogarhDrive to Deogarh. Enjoy an evening walk through the bustling streets of the village taking in the sights and sounds of rural India. Day 13: Deogarh to PushkarEnjoy a short train ride on a rural 1930s train to Phulad and continue by road to Pushkar. Enjoy a walking tour of the market and visit one of the temples by the lake. Days 14-15: Pushkar to JaipurContinue on to Jaipur. This afternoon visit the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar. Start tomorrows touring with a photo stop at the Hawa Mahal, drive to the palace and fortress at Amer before learning about printing and carpet weaving. In the afternoon we shop at Choti Choper, before enjoying traditional dancing and dinner at a local restaurant. Days 16-17: Jaipur to Ranthambore National ParkToday we head south to Ranthambore National Park where we will enjoy a canter safari this afternoon. Tomorrow enjoy morning and afternoon canter safaris. Days 18-19: Ranthambore National Park to AgraTake a train to Bharatpur from where we drive to Agra stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri. Rise early tomorrow and travel by horse drawn carriages ‘tongas’ to view the Taj Mahal, visit a marble factory to see traditional stone inlay work and Agra Fort. Day 20: Agra to DelhiThis morning drive to Delhi. Visit Qutab Minar and the Lotus Temple before stopping at Connaught Place markets for some local shopping. Day 21: Depart DelhiToday we visit Old Delhi, drive past the Red Fort, walk through Chandni Chowk to Jama Masjid and have a photo stop at India Gate. After a late check out and dinner transfer to the airport to board our flight home. Day 22: Arrive South AfricaArrive home in Johannesburg. |
