Explore the Mekong Delta region, take various boat trips amongst the smaller tributaries to visit local floating markets, villages, home industries and plantations. The following day we begin our sightseeing around Saigon visiting the Presidential Palace, War Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Post Office, Cholon, Binh Tay Markets and Tien Hau Pagoda.
Day 5: Saigon - Cu Chi Tunnels
Today explore the famous Cu Chi tunnels then continue to Tay Ninh to experience the midday service of the unique Cao Dai religion.
Days 6-7: Saigon to Hoi An via Danang
Fly to Danang. Upon arrival transfer to the UNESCO listed town of Hoi An. Tomorrow undertake a walking tour of the old centre of Hoi An, Visiting an old merchant home, the Japanese Bridge, Hoi An market and a local Chinese pagoda and assembly hall.
Day 8: Hoi An to Hue
Leave Hoi An and drive over the Hai Van Pass to the ancient capital of Hue. This afternoon take a cyclo ride to the UNESCO listed Citadel, continue by coach to Thien Mu Pagoda before enjoying a boat trip on the Perfume River. This evening partake in a cooking class focusing on select local dishes.
Days 9-10: Hue to Hanoi
Start the day with a visit to Tu Duc and Khai Dinh Royal Tombs stopping en route at an incense-stick making village. Fly to Hanoi this afternoon and in the evening enjoy a performance of the famous Water Puppets. Tomorrow visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed Sep-Dec), Stilt House and Museum, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature and drive around Hoan Kiem Lake. Late afternoon enjoy a walking tour around the Old Quarter.
Day 11: Hanoi - Halong Bay
Travel to Halong Bay and cruise through spectacular scenery whilst enjoying a seafood meal onboard. After our cruise we travel back to Hanoi through the Red River Delta. You may choose to leave the group today and stay overnight on the Halong Bay junk boat before returning to Hanoi airport directly tomorrow afternoon.
Day 12: Depart Hanoi
Transfer to the airport to board your flight to South Africa.
Due to an early flight schedule from Hanoi, the connecting time will be approximately 8 hours in Hong Kong. For those not wanting to spend this time at the airport a Hong Kong day tour can be arranged at an additional cost.
Day 13: Arrive South Africa
Arrive home early morning.
