Visiting such icons as the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, the Terracotta Warriors in Xian as well as the Great Wall and Forbidden City in Beijing, we also have time to explore the charming, ancient canal town of Wuzhen. TOUR ITINERARYDay 1-2: South Africa to ShanghaiFly with Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai. Upon arrival we will transfer to our hotel for 3 nights. In the evening enjoy a welcome banquet of traditional Shanghai cuisine.
Day 3: Shanghai - WuzhenTravel by coach to the picturesque canal town of Wuzhen. Discover its many wonders before returning to Shanghai.
Day 4: ShanghaiShanghai is known as the “Paris of the East”. Experience this exciting city on sightseeing tours of the beautiful Yu Gardens and the Old Town. After lunch we visit Shanghai Museum, the famous Bund, explore the restored area of Xintiandi with its 1920’s architectural style ‘shikumen’ buildings and indulge in some shopping along Nanjing Road. In the evening enjoy a panoramic cruise on the Huangpu River.
Day 5-6: Shanghai to XianFly to the ancient city of Xian (which means Western Peace) 2 nights. Dinner tonight will be a sumptuous Shui Jiao Banquet, a specialty of the region. On the following day we will view the most important archaeological discovery of the 20th Century, the life-size Terracotta Warriors and the Ancient City Wall, one of the few remaining in all of China. Complete the day with a performance of Tang Dynasty Dancing.
Day 7: Xian to BeijingVisit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda, the renowned Shaanxi Museum and stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter, where we will visit the Great Mosque and explore the Islamic food markets before flying to Beijing for 3 nights. This afternoon visit the Temple of Heaven and enjoy a sample of the local delicacy ‘Peking Duck’.
Days 8-9: BeijingBeijing is a city full of wonders. Our sightseeing today includes a visit to the treasure filled Forbidden City; stroll along famous Tiananmen Square and past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum. Our evening entertainment will be a fascinating Chinese Acrobatic Show. The following day enjoy an exciting walk on the Great Wall and visit the exquisite Summer Palace.
Day 10: Depart BeijingEnjoy a shopping spree at the famous copy Markets before transferring to the airport to board our return flight to South Africa.
Day 11: Arrive South AfricaArrive home this morning filled with many wonderful memories.
