TOUR ITINERARY

DAYS 1-2: SOUTH AFRICA TO SAIGON

Fly overnight with Cathay Pacific to Saigon for a four-night stay.

 

DAY 3: SAIGON

Visit the Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, Cholon (Chinatown), Binh Tay Wholesale Market and Thien Hau Pagoda. Afterwards stop at Ben Thanh Market for some shopping.

 

DAY 4: SAIGON - MEKONG DELTA

Today we explore the Mekong Delta, the heart of South Vietnam. Take a boat trip to Thoi Son Island, where we walk through the local markets and visit Vinh Trang Pagoda. After lunch return to Saigon.

 

DAY 5: SAIGON - CU CHI & TAY NINH

Explore the famous Cu Chi Tunnels led by a Cu Chi War Veteran and travel to Tay Ninh to experience the midday service at the head temple of the unique Cao Dai religion.

 

DAY 6: SAIGON TO HOI AN

Fly to Danang and transfer to Hoi An stopping at the Cham Museum, Marble Mountains and China Beach en route.

 

DAYS 7-8: HOI AN

Take a walking tour of Hoi An, visiting an old merchant’s home, the Japanese Covered Bridge, Hoi An Market and a local Chinese pagoda. The afternoon and the following day you are free to visit the tailors or soak up the atmosphere at one of the many riverside cafés.

 

DAY 9: HOI AN TO HUE

Drive over the Hai Van Pass to Hue. Visit the Imperial Citadel and Royal Tomb of Tu Duc. Tonight we enjoy a cooking class.

 

DAY 10: HUE TO HANOI

Enjoy a cruise on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda before visiting the Royal Tomb of Khai Dinh. Fly to Hanoi and enjoy a Water Puppets show this evening.

 

DAY 11: HANOI - HALONG BAY

This morning we travel to the ‘Jewel in the Crown of Vietnam’ - Halong Bay. We enjoy a relaxing cruise through the spectacular scenery before we return to Hanoi.

 

DAY 12: HANOI

Today we visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (closed Sep-Dec), Humble House on Stilts and One Pillar Pagoda. We continue to the Temple of Literature and enjoy a walk through the Old Quarter and its markets. We will also see Hoan Kiem Lake and Tran Quoc Pagoda.

 

DAYS 13-14: HANOI TO KUNMING

Visit the Ethnology Museum this morning before we bid farewell to Vietnam to embark on our China adventure. Fly to Kunming for a two night stay. This evening we sample ‘Across the Bridge Noodles’ for dinner, a pecialty of the region. The following day we enjoy a full day tour to the picturesque Stone Forest.

 

DAY 15: KUNMING TO GUILIN

This morning is free at your leisure. Fly to Guilin this afternoon.

 

DAY 16: GUILIN TO YANGSHUO

Relax on a Li River cruise as we travel to the charming town of Yangshuo.

 

DAY 17: YANGSHUO TO GUILIN

Visit the local markets before we return to Guilin and visit the town of Daxu. This evening we will enjoy a display of traditional cormorant fishing.

 

DAY 18: GUILIN TO XIAN

This morning we visit the Seven Star Caves and Mt. Diecai. Fly to Xian where this evening we feast on a traditional Shui Jiao Dumpling banquet, a specialty of the region, while enjoying a performance of music and dance from the Tang Dynasty.

 

DAY 19: XIAN

Today we visit the ancient City Wall and the incredible Terracotta Warriors. On our return to Xian, we stop at the Xian Art Ceramics and Lacquer Exhibition.

 

DAY 20: XIAN TO BEIJING

Visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum, walk through the Muslim Quarter to the Great Mosque and visit the Islamic food markets. This afternoon we board our overnight train to Beijing.

 

DAY 21: BEIJING

We arrive into Beijing this morning and visit the Summer Palace. This evening we sample the local delicacy, ‘Peking Duck’.

 

DAY 22: BEIJING

Our sightseeing today involves a stroll through famous Tiananmen Square past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, followed by a visit to the Forbidden City.

 

DAY 23: BEIJING

An often quoted saying in Beijing goes ‘you have not been to China until you have climbed the Great Wall’. Rise early this morning and take a walk along the wall. Later we will tour the 15th-century Temple of Heaven and enjoy an evening Chinese Acrobatic show.

 

DAYS 24-25: BEIJING TO SHANGHAI

Fly to Shanghai today. This afternoon is free at your leisure. Tomorrow we visit the Yu Gardens, Shanghai Museum, the Old Town and stroll along the famous Bund.

 

DAY 26: SHANGHAI

Today we visit the Pudong area and the Xintiandi area. This evening enjoy a cruise along the Huangpu River.

 

DAY 27: DEPART SHANGHAI

The morning is at leisure before we transfer to the airport for our overnight flight to South Africa.

 

DAY 28: ARRIVE SOUTH AFRICA

Arrive home this morning.
