From ZAR33 940 - 19 Days, Fully Inclusive From South Africa

This is our most comprehensive tour to Vietnam. The itinerary spans the length of the country visiting most of the sites and attractions along the way, with the added bonus of overnighting on a Junk boat in Halong Bay, Vietnam’s ‘Jewel in the Crown’. At the end of the tour there is the option to visit the hill tribes region around Sapa.

TOUR ITINERARY

DAYS 1-2: SOUTH AFRICA TO SAIGON

Fly overnight with Cathay Pacific to Saigon for a two night stay.

 

DAY 3: SAIGON

Enjoy a city tour today. Learn more about the Vietnam War with a visit to the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum. Stop at the Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office to view the French colonial architecture, followed by a visit to Cholon (Chinatown) where we see the Binh Tay Wholesale Market and Thien Hau Pagoda.

 

DAY 4: SAIGON TO MEKONG DELTA - HOME STAY IN VINH LONG

Today we drive to the ‘Rice Basket of Vietnam’ - the Mekong Delta, where we travel by boat to explore the area in and around Vinh Long Province. We spend the evening at a local farmer’s house.

 

DAY 5: MEKONG DELTA TO SAIGON

This morning we continue exploring the Mekong Delta area before returning to Saigon.

 

DAY 6: SAIGON - CU CHI & TAY NINH

Explore the famous Cu Chi Tunnels led by a Cu Chi War Veteran and head to Tay Ninh, where we experience the midday service at the head temple of the unique Cao Dai religion. Return to Saigon this afternoon.

 

DAY 7: SAIGON TO NHA TRANG

Fly to Nha Trang this morning. The afternoon is free to stroll along the beach or explore this seaside town.

 

DAY 8: NHA TRANG

Spend the day cruising around the islands off the coast of Nha Trang, visiting the Tri Nguyen Aquarium, Tam Island and a local fishing village. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

 

DAY 9: NHA TRANG TO HOI AN

Fly to Danang this morning and transfer to the town of Hoi An visiting the Cham Museum, Marble Mountains and China Beach en route.

 

DAY 10: HOI AN

Undertake a walking tour in the old town of Hoi An. See the Japanese Covered Bridge, visit a local Chinese temple and browse through Hoi An Market. We also visit an old merchant’s home, where descendents of the original merchant still reside.

 

DAY 11: HOI AN - MY SON

Today we travel west to the town of My Son where we visit the Cham Ruins. Return to Hoi An this afternoon.

 

DAY 12: HOI AN TO HUE

This morning we will drive over the scenic Hai Van Pass to Hue where we visit the Imperial Citadel and the UNESCO World Heritage listed Tu Duc Tomb. This evening partake in a cooking class focusing on select local dishes and cuisine designed for the Royal courts of Hue.

 

DAY 13: HUE TO HANOI

Enjoy a cruise on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda this morning and visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Royal Tomb of Khai Dinh. This afternoon we transfer to the airport and fly to Hanoi where we visit the Ethnology Museum.

 

DAY 14: HANOI

Visit Ho Chi Minh Quarter this morning where we see Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (closed Sep-Dec), Humble House on Stilts and One Pillar Pagoda.

 

DAY 15: HANOI

Enjoy a tour of the bustling Old Quarter and Dong Xuan Market. We also drive to the Temple of Literature and Hoan Kiem Lake to see Tran Quoc Pagoda. This evening enjoy a performance of the famous Water Puppets.

 

DAY 16: HANOI TO HALONG BAY

This morning we will travel to the ‘Jewel in the Crown of Vietnam’ - Halong Bay. We cruise around thousands of karst islets, stopping to explore caves and for a swim at a beach. Spend the night onboard relaxing and watching the sunset over the bay.

 

DAY 17: HALONG BAY TO HANOI

Continue cruising around the bay this morning before returning to Hanoi, where this afternoon is free at your leisure.

 

DAY 18: DEPART HANOI

Enjoy a full day at leisure before we transfer to Hanoi airport this evening to board our overnight flight to South Africa.

 

DAY 19: ARRIVE SOUTH AFRICA

Arrive home this morning.

Sapa Extension:

DAY 17: HANOI TO SAPA

You may choose to leave the group this evening to continue on to the hill station of Sapa. Transfer to Hanoi railway station where you will board your overnight sleeper train.

 

DAYS 18-19: SAPA

Arrive in Sapa early this morning. Over the next two days embark on a light trek to explore Sapa and the surrounding area, including the local markets, different minority villages, spectacular valleys and fine
examples of tribal agriculture.

 

DAY 20: SAPA TO HANOI

Continue exploring Sapa this morning. Tonight you will board your overnight sleeper train back to Hanoi.

 

DAY 21: DEPART HANOI

Arrive in Hanoi early this morning. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Later this afternoon you will be transferred to Hanoi airport for your overnight flight to South Africa.

 

DAY 22: ARRIVE SOUTH AFRICA

Arrive home this morning.
