Currency
In Cambodia the currency is the ‘RIEL’. Approximately 1USD = 4 170.00KHR (Aug 09) However the economy is run on USD. All pricing is quoted in USD and USD is the actual currency used. Riel is only used in place of US coins so change of less than 1USD is given in Riel. It is highly recommended that you do not use notes above USD20 as they are sometimes not accepted by the locals. You should also have a large supply of 1 and 5 dollar notes for easy use.

Exchanging foreign currency 
Banks are available in the major cities for converting US currency and offer the best exchange rates. Whenever you are purchasing goods or exchanging money please check all notes are legal tender before completing the transaction.

ATM’s
The ANZ Bank is common in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh and each branch has ATM’s which can use cards which have the Plus, Cirrus and Maestro symbols. An ATM is located next to the visa issuing station in Siem Reap International Airport and at Phnom Penh airport. Money issued from these ATM’s is in USD. Most ATM’s at the branches are within security rooms accessible by your ATM card.

Credit cards
Major hotels accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express. You may use your credit card to withdraw money at the bank with the guarantee of your passport.
