We also admire the splendour of the Nine Villages Valley, the Grand Buddha at Leshan and the pandas at the famous reserve in Chengdu. TOUR ITINERARYDay 1-2: South Africa to ShanghaiOvernight flight via Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific to Shanghai, upon arrival we will transfer to our hotel for 3 nights. Dinner tonight will be of traditional Shanghai cuisine.
Days 3-4: ShanghaiToday we visit the picturesque canal town of Wuzhen. Tomorrow explore the Yu Garden, Old Town, Shanghai Museum and the famous Bund. Enjoy an evening cruise on the Huangpu River.
Day 5: Shanghai to ChengduFly to Chengdu for an overnight stay. Dinner this evening will be a sumptuous Sichuan meal.
Day 6: Chengdu to MianyangThis morning visit the famous Panda Reserve to see these adorable creatures. Visit the Sanxindui Museum, and continue on to Mianyang.
Days 7-8: Mianyang to Nine Villages ValleyTravel to the breathtaking Nine Villages Valley (Jiuzhaigou), a botanical gallery that is heavily forested and home to many protected species. Entering the valley is like being transported into a different world, where crystal clear lakes gather at the foot of every waterfall and rich coloured forests are dotted with flowers. It is as if one of the world’s most beautiful silk scroll paintings unfolds along this scenic valley. We stay in the Valley for the next 2 nights.
Day 9: Nine Villages Valley to Mao CountyWe journey by coach to Mao County for an overnight stay, visiting the Huanglong Temple at the head of the valley, where hundreds of sparkling ponds with beautiful colours intertwine.
Day 10: Mao County to ChengduOn our way back to Chengdu we will visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, before checking into our hotel for the next 2 nights.
Day 11: Chengdu - LeshanTravel by coach to Leshan where we will marvel at the Grand Buddha, an enormous statue hewn from the side of Lingyun Mountain.
Days 12-13: Chengdu to XianFly to Xian for 2 nights, and enjoy a sumptuous Shui Jiao meal, a specialty of the region. The following day we will view the life-size Terracotta Warriors and the Ancient City Wall as well as strolling through the lively Muslim Quarter. Enjoy an evening performance of Tang Dynasty Dancing.
Day 14: Xian to BeijingVisit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and the renowned Shaanxi Museum. Afterwards fly to Beijing for 3 nights, visiting the Temple of Heaven and in the evening enjoy a sample of ‘Peking Duck’ in the evening.
Days 15-16: BeijingVisit the Forbidden City and a stroll along Tiananmen Square past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum. This evening enjoy a Chinese Acrobatic Show. On the following day enjoy a walk on the Great Wall and visit the exquisite Summer Palace.
Days 17: Depart BeijingTransfer to the airport for your flight to South Africa.
Days 18: Arrive South AfricaArrive home this morning in Johannesburg
